eBay has done it again, extending their greedy little paws even further.......
From the 1st November there is a new
Misleading Payment Policy (1 November 2007)
what this means is that should you want to sell internationally then you cannot put into your description that paypal is only for international bidders............
NO........ you must offer paypal to all buyers as well as International buyers. Despite the fact that local buyers can pay by other methods where as the only payment available to a international bidder is Paypal. The clincher is that should you state that you post world wide and not have any doscouraging words about paypal and do not have paypal selected in your payment methods and an international bidder wins the auction, then you cannot state in an email to the buyer thqat you will accept paypal as the new poilcy also covers email co0mmunication.
So now ebay want their very expensive insertion fees, as well as ensuring that you offer paypal to everyone (and not just international buyers....) so that they can take another 2.5 % of the whole transaction. offering of paypal to international bidders helped facilitate an international market and sell globally extending your market segment.
eBay cemented this policy to ensure buyers only pay by paypal by removing the normal ebay buyer protection scheme and only providing buyer protection when they pay by paypal.... meaning they can increasing their profits even further and taking more and more money off the seller who in most cases does not have a choice but to sell on ebay...
I have now just gone through all my ebay templates and removed any reference to international bidders as well as removing paypal as a method of payment...
stay tuned for an analysis of the 99 cent auction....
